Art Institute of Austin Interior Design Students Develop Baseline Teaching Tools for Elementary Students

imageThe assignment: conceptualize, develop and present a baseline curriculum that elementary school teachers can use to teach their students about aXess Homestm and visitability. The class: Dr. DeBauge-Harcum’s Fall 2009 Interior Design Program’s Human Factor class at the Art Institute of Austin. The outcome: job well done!

Tajauna Arnold, aXess Homestm Program Director was invited to audit the final presentation of the class assignment and was impressed with the creativity and ideas the students put into the project that ultimately produced a baseline curriculum aXess Homestm can expand upon and potentially make available to teachers across the state of Texas.

The Art Institute of Austin, Interior Design Program, Human Factors Winter 2009 class: Front row (seated): Melina Robles, Brittanie Lee, Erica Mann, Ms. Tajauna Arnold Program Director of Axess Homes, Back Row: Claire Pollard, Robin Gonzales, Tristan Cliff, creator of the “Tex” character, Kamie Manders, Sara Sherman, Michelle Palma, Beth Frost, Amber Dennis, and Ai‐Austin faculty, Dr. Lucia DeBauge‐Harcum.

The students created a curriculum that makes learning about aXess Homestm and visitability fun and interesting by incorporating learning tools that include puzzles and games and everyone will especially love the new aXess Homestm mascot, ‘Tex the aXess Homes Cowboy.’ For teachers, the curriculum also includes a power point presentation they can use when teaching the students.

Thanks to Dr. Lucia DeBauge-Harcum, aXess Homes advisory board member for taking this on as a class project and to all the students who participated -- job well done!
